Medicare Supplement Plans for 65 Plus
Turning sixty five is a big milestone, and you are not alone. In the United States, more than eight thousand people reach their sixty fifth birthday every single day. With so many people transitioning into Medicare, it is completely normal to feel unsure about what you need and how it all works. That is where I come in.
Medicare gives you a strong foundation, but it does not cover everything. A Medicare Supplement plan can help pay for the costs that Original Medicare leaves behind, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. My goal is to make this transition simple, comfortable, and stress free so you can stop worrying about coverage and start enjoying this new chapter of life. You have earned it.
The first step is applying for Medicare Parts A and B at Medicare.gov. Once you have Part A and Part B, you are ready to explore Medicare Supplement options.
What Is Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap)
Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as Medigap, is extra coverage you can purchase from a private insurance company. It works alongside Original Medicare to help pay your share of out of pocket costs.
To enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan, you must have both Part A and Part B. Once you have them, you receive a six month Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period. This period begins the first month you are sixty five or older and enrolled in Part B.
During this time, you can choose any Medicare Supplement plan you want, and the insurance company cannot deny you coverage because of pre existing health conditions. After this window closes, you may still be able to enroll, but you could face higher costs or medical underwriting. This enrollment period happens only once. It does not repeat every year.
What Medicare Supplement Plans Cover
Medicare Supplement plans help cover your share of costs for services that are already covered by Original Medicare. These costs may include:
-
Copayments
-
Coinsurance
-
Deductibles
Some Medicare Supplement plans also include benefits that Original Medicare does not cover, such as emergency medical care when traveling outside the United States.
Each plan offers different levels of coverage, so you can choose the one that fits your needs, your lifestyle, and your budget.
